Dr. William A. Croft, DVM, PhD, was a pioneering veterinary pathologist and toxicologist whose work helped shape early understanding of toxic mold and mycotoxin‑related illness. Born in 1943, he earned his DVM and later a PhD in Medical Pathology, eventually working with the University of Wisconsin–Madison and consulting for government agencies, physicians, and families. Dr. Croft investigated thousands of environmental illness cases and became known for identifying the stages of mycotoxicosis and documenting the cellular damage caused by trichothecene toxins. His research bridged human and animal health, offering some of the earliest scientific validation for mold‑related disease. Dr. Croft passed away in 2022, leaving a lasting legacy in environmental toxicology and public health.
